O Gajo embarks on the musical mystery train from Lisbon to the world in September!
Lisbon Express is the first international album of O Gajo that will be released in September.
After the Launch of two EP’s “Rossio” and “Santa Apolónia”, named after famous train stations in Lisbon, which integrate two of “As 4 Estações d’O Gajo” (The 4 Seasons of O Gajo), Lisbon Express arrives, a special album that will be released and distributed exclusively for international listeners, outside Portugal.
O Gajo is a project of the Portuguese rock’n’roll musician João Morais, with the intention of connecting his music back to Portugal, through his Viola Campaniça.
The Viola Campaniça is a Portuguese traditional chordophone used to accompany the traditional chants of the south region of Portugal, Alentejo. It is the largest of the Portuguese chordophones and has 5 orders of strings traditionally played by fingering only with the thumb. O Gajo innovates on this tradition via his very own Campaniça approach, technique and sound.
His first album, “Longe do Chão”, was released in May 2017 and since then O Gajo has been playing in Portugal from north to south, receiving excellent feedback from both the public and the press. In 2019 he showcased at Eurosonic, and this September he will showcase once again at Reeperbahn Festival, Germany as well as the MMVV – Mercat de Vic in Catalonia.
Lisbon Express, the first album out of Lusitanian lands, will be released on Friday September 13th by European Phonographic and distributed by Level: Up (digital) and Broken Silence (CD). The album also features two brand new, unreleased tracks as well as the two Portuguese EP releases.
